Our Background

Action for Hope was founded by Maria Ngafa with the help of American citizens to provide assistance to orphans and underprivileged children who live in deplorable condition in Cameroon. Maria Ngafa was a retired midwife who successfully raised 11homeless orphans along with her three biological children. All these are now happy and productive members of their community. Nevertheless, thousands of other orphans and underprivileged children have been dying in Cameroon every year due to the lack of basic care.

Americans that helped found this organization were vacationing in Cameroon. While there, they were shocked to see impoverished children assuming adults responsibilities such as earning wages, and doing exploitative work to survive, missing out on the pleasures of childhood. Adolescents orphans as young as 14 years old were dropping out of school to become head-of-household caring for their younger brothers and sisters.

Even though the situation may appear bleak, it is by no means hopeless. Her purpose of creating this organization is to increase awareness of these amazing, and innocent children that are suffering and dying, and to remind us all that we need to take action. The lives of these little ones can be saved if we all get involved. You can get involved by making a financial, material donation or by offering your skills. Your help provides impoverished children with basic needs such as a home, family, food, education, and protection that every child deserves.
