Education and Vocational Training Fund

The high cost of tuition and school related expenses prevent orphans and other poor children from attending school. Poor children often turn to the street to look for school related expenses where they get exposed to forced labor, rape, drug abuse, sex work and other forms of exploitation. In Cameroon 31% of the total workforce consists of child labor according to UNICEF.

The purpose of the educational fund is to give many more orphans and abandoned children an opportunity to have access to education.

We provide poor children with school supplies, tuition fees, and uniforms and we build schools free of charge for them. We helped 90 students enroll in elementary, junior high, and high schools. We provided 150 children with school supplies. Nevertheless there are still many more orphans and abandoned children in Cameroon that are out of school because they cannot afford school related expenses. Our goal is to help an additional 200 children to get access to school next year.

Our Campaign
Our ongoing fundraising supports the building of a free educational institution that will consist of a primary school, secondary school, and a vocational training center for children ages 17 to 19. In our vocational center students will train for two to three years in computer fields, farming and food processing, or nursing. The institution will eventually house 100 children at a time. Participants will acquire knowledge and marketable workplace skills that will prepare them to provide for themselves, their siblings, and contribute to the development of their community. Empowering these students to take control of their life will help in breaking the cycle of poverty.

Goal
Our goal is to raise $400,000 for land, construction material, furnishings, equipment, school supplies, books and the first year’s operating expenses. To reduce the building costs, the construction of the educational institution will be done using community labour and local materials.
