Support of Children in Community Homes
The purpose of this program is to find surrogate mothers and houses in the community for orphans and children with no parental care.
Efforts to support orphaned children emphasize comprehensive and integrated services at the community level. Community-based support can both enable the children to stay within their communities and enable us to support more children. Community caregivers frequently rely on their community network for assistance, which makes community based-care a necessity.
Our staff identifies orphaned and abandoned children with the collaboration of local authorities, (which has detailed statistics of needy children). They also identify kind-hearted women who are already making sacrifices to care for orphans, or are willing to take them in, but have been limited by their meagre resources. These women become the new mothers for the orphaned. We place six to ten children in each house with their new mother. Each mother builds a close relationship with children in her care, and provides them with the love and nurture they need. As a caregiver, she guides their development and runs her household independently.
The children now have a family, a stable environment, and a sense of security in which to thrive. Action for Hope assists these caregivers with the resources they need to meet the basic needs of orphans. We issue stipends, financial assistance, food aid, and money for school related expenses.
We reached our initial goal to support 200 children (ages 4 to 17) from the village of Mvog-Ebanda, and we plan to increase the number of children by at least 50 each year.
